My name is Alex Averbukh. I was born in Odessa, Ukraine in 1982. I moved to New York when I was in junior high school. I moved to Japan in 2007 and currently I have been here the longest of the 3 countries where I lived. I began playing chess when I was 5 years old and I stuck with it. Throughout all of my life I have studied chess, enjoyed chess, taught chess and of course played it. I have mostly taught beginners. I have taught individually and in groups. No matter what your goal is I like to keep the lesson and material interesting and enjoyable.

Many people don't think that there are chess players and tournaments in Japan, but I would be happy to clear out that misunderstanding. If you have any questions about chess in Japan I would be happy to help and or answer those.
