Robert Hovhannisyan is an Armenian grandmaster and the 2011 national champion.    

In 2008 and 2009, Hovhannisyan won the national Under-18 championship. He won the national championship in 2011 and was a runner-up three more times, in 2012, 2014, and 2016. 

Hovhannisyan won the 2011 World Team Chess Championship gold on the reserve board. In the same year, he scored 10.5/13 at the 2011 World Junior Championship and was a runner-up to Dariusz Swiercz on tiebreaks. 

Hovhannisyan scored 7.5/9 at the 2015 Riga Technical University Open and was a runner-up to Alexei Shirov on tiebreaks. 

Hovhannisyan also won a silver medal with Armenia's national team at the 2022 FIDE Olympiad.
