Bio

Antoaneta Stefanova is a Bulgarian grandmaster and was Women’s World Chess Champion from 2004 to 2006. She won her world title in a knockout tournament, beating GM and former world champion Maia Chiburdanidze in the semifinals (1.5-0.5) before beating IM Ekaterina Kovalevskaya convincingly in the final match (2.5-0.5). She won the Bulgarian Women’s Chess Championship in 1995, took the European Individual Women’s Championship in 2002, and won the Women’s World Rapid Chess Championship in 2012. As a youth player, Stefanova won the World Girls U10 Championship in 1989 and in 1992 became European U14 Girls Champion.
